Episode: 1996 Stimulation and Hydraulic Tests Soultz-sous-Forêts

Description

A series of hydraulic tests were performed from August to October 1996 at the GPK2 well. First a production test was conducted in August to determine the productivity of the well. The production test was followed by a second stimulation of GPK2 after the previous one in 1995. The open hole section of the well was re-stimulated at flowrates up to 78 l/s. A total of 28000 m3 of fluid was injected during the test. The stimulation was followed by a stepped injection test to determine the injectivity of the well after the stimulation. Finally, two circulation tests during which the water produced from GPK2 was reinjected in GPK1 were performed in October 1996. About 7500 microseismic events were detected during the experiments, and about 5700 were located.

- Stimulation test at GPK2: from 16:30 18/09/96 to 22:15 25/09/96
- Stepped injection test at GPK2: from 10:30 29/09/96 to 04:00 06/10/96
- First circulation test between GPK2 and GPK1: from 10:04 12/10/96 to 12:09 20/10/96
- Second circulation test between GPK2 and GPK1: from 15:30 28/10/96 to 19:10 30/10/96

Microseismic catalogue with moment magnitude of the downhole network from CSMA - Soultz-sous-Forêts 1996 Stimulation

Microseismic catalogue of 3464 events recorded by the downhole network during the 1996 Soultz‑sous‑Forêts stimulation. The dataset covers only the stimulation phase and a few days after, with almost no events at low flow rates and a strong increase in seismicity during the 78 L/s injection stage.

Dataset

In 1996, three CSMA 4‑component accelerometers (in wells 4550, 4601, 4616) and one hydrophone (in EPS1) were deployed for the Soultz microseismic network. Sensors were not grouted.

Dataset

Hourly hydraulic–seismic catalogue for the 1996 Soultz stimulation, starting 18/09/1996 12:00. It reports flowrate, injected volume, hydraulic energy, and the corresponding seismic response (event depth, cumulative moment, radiated and faulting energies) to evaluate how injected hydraulic energy converts into seismic energy, following Drif et al. (2024).

Dataset

Microseismic catalogue of the 1996 Soultz‑sous‑Forêts stimulation, listing events with location, CSMA moment magnitude, and recalculated seismic moment and moment magnitude. The dataset is derived from the CSMA 1996 downhole catalogue and reprocessed following Drif et al. (2024).
